Avatar 2: The Way Of The Water Review

Sequel of a film from 2009, Avatar 2 the way of the water. James Cameron waited 12 years to make this film after the first Avatar came out due to the long stage of pre-filming. But was it worth it to wait this long? What would be different for the second movie if it came out 2 years after the first movie? All of the details are in this blog!

First of all personally this movie was generally great. However, I don’t think the story wasn’t the best part of this movie. The visuals were worth the hype. I forgot that I was in a movie theater, I felt like I was in the movie, in the water. Besides, the movie looked nothing like a video game or a computer effect, it was pretty realistic. The characters moved very smoothly and the facial expressions were so good. In the scenes where normal people and the “blue people” were in the same frame, it didn't look weird at all even though in the first 2009 movie you could tell something was off. The 2009 Avatar movie has wonderful CGI for its time but when we compare it to the second movie it looks funny.

We can all agree that this movie had the best visuals so let’s talk about the story from now on (Spoiler Warning).

I think it was great to meet the new characters (Jake Sully’s kids). I think that it was great that the focus of the movie was not Jake. It was pretty interesting to see Kiri because the same actor as Dr. Grace plays the role. We saw that Dr. Grace died in the first movie, but her daughter stayed alive, and she turned out as Kiri. A lot of people think that Kiri is Dr. Grace which is logical because Dr. Grace connected with the “tree” in the first movie.

Let’s talk about the brothers. I think that the brother who died: Neteyam was unnecessary. I didn’t feel anything when he died because the movie never focused on him. It was all about his brother. Because of that Neteyam’s death was predictable. The connection between Lo’ak and his “Tulkun” was very sweet, and again because of the CGI, we could see Tulkun’s emotions very clearly and beautifully.

I think Spider’s character was wasted. We could see much more about being a human in the forest, but they didn’t show it. Also, I was very mad that Spider saved his father even though he knew he was wrong and he was the enemy.

In the last action scene, there were a lot of things that I did not understand. For example, how did the entire army disappear? We saw only Jake Sully and his family fighting, not the others even though there were like 100 people in there.

With ups and downs, this 3-hour movie was worth watching. I would give it a 7.5/10. I hope you like it too.
