Today as you see in the quote, I am going to talk about Dune (2021). I watched the movie two years ago in cinemas, which was itself an experience. The sounds, the music, cinematography, acting, story…
As you all know the first movie of the dune is an adaptation of Frank Helbert’s book. It tells about only half of the film. I read the book after the movie came out, and I can say that I love both of them, but I am going to talk about only the movie.
The director of Dune is Denis Villeneuve who directed Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Prisoners, and more. I can say that Timothee Chalamet is the lead actor, but actors like Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, and Zendaya's names should be mentioned. We have to mention that although Zendaya made a huge appearance in the trailers and interviews, she has only 7 minutes of screen time.
The movie Dune is only about half of the first Dune book, and I think because of that Dune is an instruction to the bigger universe. The second Dune movie will come out at the end of this year, so I think both of these films combined will be a good storyline. It is not easy to talk about this movie because there is not much of a story, the movie is an introduction and it does not have an end. So I will talk about the other sides.
Dune is not like the other “tentpole” movies. Usually, common science fiction movies are all in the same format. You can understand them easily, many action scenes that are in every 30 minutes, and funny jokes but Dune is not one of them. It is very different. The new film series with big universes are often superhero movies. Some of these movies are pretty great, but I believe that people want to see something different, and Dune is a great example of that. Dune does contain action scenes, but it is not the main idea of the movie. You shouldn’t watch it only because you want to see action scenes.
Dune is a science fiction movie, but it can also be considered a thriller film. With the brilliant acting, this movie takes itself very seriously. For me, the only negative part of this movie is that we do not connect with the characters very much. The movie is pretty long, but still, we don’t know about the back story of the characters. For example, if we knew about Paul’s (Timothee Chalamet) life back on their planet, Caladan, we would’ve connected with the character more.
With the ups and downs, we met a new film universe, and in the end, there will be probably a series of successful dune movies.
