The film begins with Harlan Thrombey, a writer famous for his thriller novels, found in his room in the mansion where he lived after his birthday party, with his throat cut, with a knife in his hand. The police and the family think that he committed suicide, but the fact that he did so by slitting his throat seemed strange. After this situation, two police detectives take the statements from the family members one by one because of the suspicious situation in the suicide, and that is how the movie starts and takes the audience in it.
Cinematography: The cinematography in "Knives Out" is probably the best thing in this film. In the latest decades, with the newest technology, is way more different than watching a film from the 90s. In knives out, you feel like you are watching a film from the 90s or 00s with a clear view. Lighting is another essential aspect of the cinematography in "Knives Out." The cinematographer of "Knives Out" Yedlin employs a range of lighting techniques to enhance the mood and tone of each scene. The Thrombey mansion is often bathed in warm, golden hues, evoking a sense of wealth and privilege. In contrast, darker and more shadowy lighting is used during moments of suspense, effectively creating an atmosphere of mystery and tension.
Story: To be honest, I think the story of this film is its weakest part. Because at some parts of the movie, I got bored and wanted to see the end. Besides, some characters didn't have any developments throughout the film. However, with the plot twists, it was definitely worth watching. The things the audience didn't like were usually minor.
Overall, as a both comedy and a murder mystery movie "Knives Out" was great and not absurd at all.
