Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One was out on Friday, and as a person who never watched a Mission: Impossible movie ever in their life, I watched this movie. I wasn’t confused or missed any part of the movie other than references to old movies. So you could too easily watch this movie without watching the other six movies.
In this film, Ethan Hunt and his friends try to control an out-of-control AI, however, we don’t see if they win this battle because part two of this movie will come out a year later.
How was the movie? I truly enjoyed the action scenes in this movie and would recommend you to watch this movie in IMAX because the action scenes and the sounds are the main parts of this movie.
With the latest technology, almost all movies use CGI in most of their scenes. However, Tom Cruise does his own action scenes. He flies a fight plain, he stands on a plane, he breaks bones jumping around the buildings, and in this film, he jumps from a cliff with a motorcycle and flies off with a parachute. They filmed this scene before they filmed anything, in case of Tom Cruise dying. What would the producers do if he died is another topic.
The Topic: I liked how the villain of the movie was an AI. Because of the developing technology and ChatGPT, everyone is talking about it, and most people actually worried about it since it could turn out to be a real problem. The closest we have been to AI is social media algorithms. The algorithms tracked us and made us addicted to the content we watched which is really similar to the topic of Mission: Impossible. The villain of the film manipulates people to make them like pawns of its own. The AI in the film is an organism that can see the possibilities that can happen in the future. So our characters try to guess what’s AI planning with their moves and try to do the opposite. I liked how this scene was complicated and they tried to guess if AI wants them to think like how they were thinking at the moment.
In some parts of the movie, the action and the story kept up together, but sometimes it was the opposite and the story started to repeat itself. Altogether, this movie was one of the best action movies of this year and it is worth watching at a movie theatre.
